61% of Americans Say Taking a Vacation This Year Is Important
By Jetpacker
USA Today and Gallup just released the results of a survey on Americans’ summer travel plans. And, in a nutshell, travel=good, gas prices=bad.
According to a new the poll, 61% of Americans say taking a vacation away from home is important this year. Only 18% of Americans said it wasn’t important at all. The rest were somewhere in the middle or had no opinion.
BUT, even though 61% of Americans say taking a vacation is important, 29% of us are actually planning to travel LESS this summer than we did last summer. Just 20% are planning to travel more than they did last year.
And gas prices are getting most of the blame.
71% of Americans who will be traveling this summer said they expect to spend more on transportation, while 17% of (curiously-optimistic) people expect to pay LESS to travel this year compared to last year.
Last May, the average price of gas in the U.S. was about $2.80 per gallon. Right now, it’s hovering around $3.96 a gallon.
